Thoreau Galleries reside in Thoreau Center for Sustainability in San Francisco's historic Presidio National Park. The gallery is situated in two long, beautifully enclosed, sunlit porch corridors of the historical building. Hundreds of Thoreau Center's tenants and visitors pass through these corridors daily.
Thoreau Galleries exhibit and showcase art that exemplifies the values of environmental and human sustainability. The galleries also enhance Thoreau Center's function as a community partner providing a venue for local artists and art organizations to exhibit their work and a venue for the local community to host outreach programs, community activities and celebrations.
The mission of Thoreau Galleries is to educate, beautify, and enrich the daily experience of its tenants, visitors, and community while promoting the values of Thoreau Center for Sustainability, as well as becoming a venue for community involvement.
When pure it is transparent, colorless, odorless and tasteless.
The “Water Project” visually explores one of our most precious resources and one of the most overwhelming forces of nature. Inspired by water's depth, colors, energy, mystery, and physical properties, the artists have created work using a range of media from film and photographs to wood, canvas and paper.
Exhibition date: June 19 through August 8, 2008
