Located in the historic Letterman Hospital buildings of San Francisco's Presidio National Park, Thoreau Center for Sustainability is a highly successful Multi-Tenant Nonprofit Center. This 12 building facility houses over 60 organizations working for social and environmental sustainability as well as two community-oriented art galleries. Its renovation incorporated green design and historic preservation. Thoreau Center for Sustainability is an innovative model that is replicated nationally by other Multi-tenant Nonprofit Centers.
Program Management
Program management is provided by Bruce DeMartini, who oversees all events, exhibits, and community development projects such as:
• Art gallery events
• Brown bag speaker series
• Cooperative buying program
• Partnership with Presidio Park Stewardship Program to help restore nearby natural habitats
• Energy reduction education programs
